Nurses Fired Over Cell Phone Photos Of Patient

Nurses accused of photographing a patient and posting the pictures on the Internet have been fired.
The investigation started with an anonymous call from an employee at Francis Medical Center, with the allegation that a nurse took pictures of a patient with her cell phone and posted them on her Facebook page.
Last week, the nurse told 17 News she never posted the pictures on the Internet. Investigators have since interviewed the nurse and said she offered more details.
"There were two nurses that independently took a picture each of an X-ray of a patient," County Undersheriff Kurt Pickel said.
The patient was admitted to the emergency room with an object lodged in his rectum. Police said the nurse explained she and a co-worker snapped photos when they learned it was a sex device. Police said discussion about the incident was posted on her Facebook page, but they haven't found anyone who actually saw the pictures.
The nurse removed her Facebook page from the Internet last week. Without more, Picknel said this conduct does not appear to violate any state laws. He has referred the case to the FBI.
"We've notified federal authorities of this allegation to see if there are federal violations, most notably HIPAA violations, patient rights," he said. The hospital did not return a call seeking comment.

Chinese art is simply the breast

It's a lovely day in Qingyuan, in China's Guangdong province. The birds are singing in the trees; in the distance, the Bei river flows gently on; and along the streets echoes the unmistakable sound of an ox pulling a cart with two gigantic fake breasts on it.
The vast, ball-shaped breasts were made by Chinese artist Shu Yong, and shown during a local arts show in Qingyuan.
The sculpture was previously featured in an exhibit in Beijing that aimed to increase appreciation for natural curves in a country where plastic surgery is booming.
Shu's work is now being showcased to a rural audience.

The man with the world's longest ear hair

It's important to have a goal in life. Indian grocer Radhakant Baijpai certainly has one - to make sure that he has the longest ear hair in the world.

Radhakant was crowned the official Guinness world record holder for the longest ear hair back in 2003, when his aural fronds were an already-impressive 13.2cm long. But that didn't stop him pursuing his goal of ever-longer hair on his ears.
After several more years of carefully cultivating and caring for the ear-hair, Radhakant's tufts now stretch an astonishing 25cm. He is now waiting for Guinness adjudicators to confirm that he has set a new high, hairy bar for his chosen field.

Radhakant, from Uttar Pradesh in northern India, acknowledges that his wife has, at times, wished that he would cut his ear hair off - but he says that she has agreed to let him keep it, as it is a source of pride.
His 25-year-old son is already displaying signs of growing similar ear-hair - although only time will tell if the son can eventually take the place of the father, standing triumphant atop the pinnacle of human ear-hair achievement.

Police use doughnut DNA to solve church crime

Doughnut-loving police have solved a church burglary through analysing DNA found on a half-eaten doughnut. As Homer Simpson said: "Donuts - is there anything they can't do?"
In the case Indiana police were called to a church burglary where a number of musical instruments were taken.
They initially struggled for leads but hungry, and frankly stereotypical, officers found a box of doughnuts in the church's kitchen.
Preparing for a well-earned snack, Police chief Wigham-style, they noticed a bite had been taken from one of the doughnuts.
Furious that one of the tasty donuts had been spoiled, officers redoubled their efforts to track the perpetrator.
Deputies sent the half-eaten doughnut to the Indiana State Police lab for testing. It found that DNA left on the treat matched the man, who is serving a prison sentence at the Branchville Correctional Facility for an unrelated home burglary.
A 22-year-old man was charged with burglary and the police had a deserved snack.

Hmmmmm. Doughnuts...

Happy Valentines Day

Thought you knew everything there is to know about Valentine's Day? Then think again! We give you ten weird and wacky facts about the day that strikes fear into the heart of singletons and glee into those in couples.

1. Teachers receive the most Valentine's Day cards, closely followed by children, mothers, wives and partner.

2. Penicillin, a popular treatment for STDs such as syphilis, was introduced to the world on February 14, 1929.

3. If you're single don't despair. You can celebrate Singles Awareness Day (SAD) instead. Meant as an alternative to Valentine's Day, the holiday is for single people to celebrate or to commiserate in their single status. A common greeting on this day is "Happy SAD!"

4. Or you could pop over to Finland where Valentine's Day is called Ystävänpäivä, which translates into "Friend's day". This day is more about remembering all your friends, not only your loved ones.

5. Durex claims that condom sales are highest around Valentine's Day - 20 percent to 30 percent higher than usual.

6. More home pregnancy testing kits are sold in March than in any other month.

7. About 1 billion Valentine's Day cards are exchanged each year. This makes it the largest seasonal card-sending occasion of the year, next to Christmas.

8. About 3 per cent of pet owners will give Valentine's Day gifts to their pets.

9. In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their Valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. Nowadays to wear your heart on your sleeve means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling.

10. In Victorian times it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine's Day card.
