Bert and Ernie are not Gay

It's official. Bert and Ernie are not gay… or straight for that matter. They're just best friends. The denial was issued by the Sesame Street gang after a petition calling for the two to get married gained traction online in the wake of legalized gay marriage in New York State. Sesame Workshop put the kibosh on a possible wedding by releasing a statement on their official Sesame Street Facebook page. They wrote, "Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves." The Sesame Street folks were at pains to point that while Bert and Ernie are male and possess human traits they are puppets and puppets "do not have a sexual orientation." Hmmm, someone tell that to Miss Piggy.
